Cute fabric plus a best friends birthday party equals a new party dress. My inspiration came from one of my students who made a similar dress from a commercial pattern, for her daughter Elle…I honestly don’t think there is one pattern out there that I follow step by step. My students will agree that they often hear me say, when reading through the instructions, “I don’t know why they would do it like that?”. I know they are experts but most of the time I think their instructions should be so much easier, especially for you beginner sewers.
Thankfully I can make up my own patterns and this one was simple to do. I wanted to include a zipper in this dress, I love an invisible zip. Never mind tacking it in or ironing it out…come to Miss Mary Sewing Classes and I’ll teach you the easy way. Just on the weekend I had two of my new students insert invisible zippers into a skirt and a cushion cover and they did a brilliant job!
I also made the piping. Here in Perth it is really hard to find nice piping so I always encourage my students to make their own. Whilst it may take a little longer, you are able to get the perfect match for the the outfit (or cushion).

I haven’t quite finished making all the sizes in the range so please email me well before your class so I can make sure it is done. If you are shopping for fabric now you can purchase 1.5m, you will also need a 20cm invisible zipper.
